The prospect of writing proposals that are designed to have a palpable impact on our society can be daunting. Influencing the 'powers that be' can often seem an enormous, almost futile task. The resultant atmosphere of either resignation and indifference, or glib protestation, does not change anything. The Buchanan Institute makes 'having an impact' an achievable ambition. We want you to have BIG ideas for a better society. With the help of an assigned academic mentor, you will hone your ideas to ensure that they are viable and consistent. And there you have it: real solutions to real problems.

The purpose of a think tank, the structure and content of its published policy proposals, may not be obvious. We have organised an introductory event to resolve this uncertainty, explaining The Buchanan Institute's undertaking and what producing policy proposals thereby entails. Have a look at our Events page for more details.

The subject matter a think tank could tackle is vast. The Buchanan Insitute will therefore launch projects on particular issues about which we will hold an initial conference. A series of policy-seminars will follow to discuss various possibilities for specific policy proposals for you to write about. The conference will gather together high-profile speakers, experts in the chosen topic, to encourage the dynamic circulation of ideas. The key goal is not merely to dispute, but to provide our own solutions.

The Buchanan Institute is a non-partisan organisation. We are looking for any ideas, so long as they are backed up by evidence.
