The Buchanan Institute is Edinburgh's first student-led think tank.

We will provide a platform for students to research and develop their ideas for 'what should be done' to create a better society.

Students will have the chance to produce policy proposals with guidance from our academic mentors.

By delivering our policy proposals to policymakers in government, the public sector, the private sector and non-profit organisations, The Buchanan Institute will connect students and their ideas to those who can affect change.

Our ambition goes beyond the campus. We want to influence the debate in central and local government, businesses, banks, health and education systems, charities and NGO's. As we are the only student-led think tank in Scotland we have a fantastic opportunity to make our voices heard.

We will join a growing network of student-led think tanks from around the country, including those at Cambridge, KCL, UCL, LSE, York, Warwick, Sheffield and Manchester. This is part of a movement that is changing the way students do politics, where it is not just about protesting against what is wrong but providing our own alternatives and solutions too.

Students have for too long been alientated from the debate. Now, through concrete policy proposals, we can help shape it.

The Buchanan Institute is a non-partisan organisation. We are open to any idea, so long as it is based on the evidence. We want people to challenge their preconcieved assumptions and ideologies and see what works.

We want ideas from across the student community, from any academic discipline. Whether you are an engineer, medic, economist, scientist or politics student we want to hear from you. Policy makers want to know our vision and The Buchanan Institute provides this platform.
